Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Bromsgrove East, Sam Evans, met with members of Bromsgrove Golf Club this week to support their campaign against proposals to build 1,300 houses on the land at Bromsgrove Golf Centre.

As the local County Councillor for the area, Councillor Evans raised his concerns about the over 1,850 houses proposed on the corridor of the A38 around Burcot and the Oakalls. With around 900 houses on the Oakalls, proposals to build more than double that nearby will have great impact on the local area.

Councillor Evans commented: “The loss of the Golf Centre will be devastating, losing not only leisure and recreational opportunities to an increased population, but also social groups of all ages (affecting thousands of people) along with green belt land and its precious wildlife.”

“The lack of infrastructure also shows that the proposed sites on the A38 are not suitable for development. Bromsgrove’s Lib Dem councillors have been opposing Worcestershire County Council’s Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (BREP) from the inception, which won’t address the issues we currently face, let alone account for 1,850 more houses along the A38.”

He added: “I am very grateful that the Golf Club invited me to meet with them to discuss the proposals and listen to their concerns. I would encourage as many residents as possible to share their concerns by responding to the consultation before 22nd September.”

As the County Councillor for Bromsgrove East, Councillor Evans will also be raising concerns about other proposed sites within his division, including around Finstall and Aston Fields.
