During the coalition we have openly condemned the inefficiencies in the welfare system, which have made nearly 1 million (Trussell Trust figures) referrals to food banks necessary . We need in the next coalition to ensure that
everyone in work is paid a wage, which is adequate for their needs without recourse to food banks,
benefits reach every claimant within five days max. and that Job Seekers Allowance sanctions are much more sparingly used or not at all.
asylum seekers are allowed to work so they do not need to rely on Home Office payments.
Governments are elected to help the poor , not to force them to use food banks to ward off destitution.
