Lib Dems Launch Key Campaign Pledge to Fight for a Western Relief Road

Candidates for the Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats are demanding a Western Relief Road to ease chronic congestion on the A38 in the town centre and pledge to fight tooth and nail for one in Worcestershire County Council's council chamber if elected in May.

After breaking onto Bromsgrove District Council at the last local elections the Lib Dems placed a council motion to assess a Western Relief Road but this was voted down by the Conservatives.

Bromsgrove East Lib Dem candidate Sam Evans said: "With many new homes set to be built on the outskirts of the town centre a relief road is needed now more than ever. A relief road will reduce time wasted sitting in traffic and reduce air pollution in the town centre and surrounding roads, improving air quality for residents in areas that border the town centre including Aston Fields, the Oakalls and Parklands."

He added: "However, if we are serious about tackling the climate emergency we must also improve active travel opportunities to help reduce traffic further."

Fellow Lib Dem campaigner and candidate for Bromsgrove West Joanna McKenna echoed the need for a Western Relief Road. She said: "The Lib Dems have consistently fought for Western Relief Road and will continue to make the case for one if elected to Worcestershire County Council in May."
