The Liberal Democrats have achieved record breaking results in Bromsgrove, increasing their number of councillors on Bromsgrove District Council to 5 following the local elections on 4th May.

The Bromsgrove Conservatives plummeted to 11 seats and lost their majority control of the Council.

Councillors Siobhan Robinson and Rob Hunter held their Bromsgrove Central and Norton and Lickey End seats winning 71% and 89% of the vote respectively.

Councillor Josh Robinson gained the Lowes Hill seat, with a 50% increase in the Lib Dem vote share and defeated the incumbent chairman of the council.

Councillor Sam Evans won the Slideslow seat off the Conservatives increasing the Lib Dem vote share by 47.5% and Councillor David Nicholl leapfrogged Labour to win the Avoncroft seat off the Conservatives and pushed the Conservatives into third place.

The Lib Dems significantly increased their vote in Aston Fields, Sidemoor and Sanders Park and narrowly lost Lickey Hills to the Conservatives.

Cllr. Sam Evans said: "Across Bromsgrove District we won 20% of the vote, double the amount we achieved four years ago and the Conservatives plummeted to 35%.

Bromsgrove is no longer a safe Conservative seat and the blue wall continues to crumble across the country with the Liberal Democrats winning support and delivering for residents."

Cllr. Josh Robinson added: "Residents have made their voice loud and clear that no one party in Bromsgrove has a mandate to govern alone. Lib Dem councillors are pragmatic and willing to work with others where there is common ground. Lib Dems are open to talks with the other political groups as long as we can deliver on our key priorities;

We want Artrix reopened. We want to tackle traffic with the Council creating an independent study to assess sites for a relief road and other traffic options. We want to protect Green Belt with a focus on building the right homes in the right places with the right infrastructure. We want to regenerate Bromsgrove with a programme of much needed investment. We also want a cleaner and greener Bromsgrove, with the Council working towards carbon neutrality."
